There is a conspiracy to cancel the national election: Khandaker Mosharraf

Desk Report:

BNP Standing Committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain has said that there is a conspiracy to delay or cancel the 13th national election. He said that some people in the country are trying to create a crisis over the election by making a non-issue an issue. He called on everyone to remain united to deal with this crisis.

He made this comment at a discussion meeting at a hotel in Banani, the capital, on Thursday (November 6).

An organization called ‘Dhaka Forum Initiative’ organized a discussion titled ‘Re-Imagining Bangladesh’s Political Future’, an analysis of a book written about BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain said at the meeting that there is a conspiracy to delay or cancel the election. Some people in the country are trying to create a crisis over the election by making a non-issue an issue. The people of the country must unite to make the election a success in dealing with this crisis.

The BNP leader said that there is no chance of going outside the election. The safest time to hold the election is next February. After that, Ramadan will come.
Mosharraf Hossain said that the party has already announced, but some are conspiring. PR (proportional representation) will be required, but its explanation is not being given properly. If PR is used, there may come a time when it will not be possible to form a government in the country.

At the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that those who are currently enthusiastic about reforms should know that this initiative was taken in 2016 through Begum Khaleda Zia’s Vision 2030.

Former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Anwarullah Chowdhury presided over it. The discussion, moderated by Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Professor Kamrul Ahsan, included BNP Chairperson’s Security Advisor Major General (retd) Fazle Elahi Akbar, Acting Chairman’s Advisor Mahdi Amin, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Bobby Hajjaj and many others.

In addition, social activist and Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter Ndileka Mandela spoke via video message. A written statement by Professor Aliar Hossain, Department of Leadership and Diplomacy, Northumbria University, London, was read out at the event.
